ANIMATION MENTOR BEGINS!

So I went to SIGGRAPH this year in San Diego. I had heard about AnimationMentor before I believe from AWN.com, but at the time I was still in school and didn't need any more schoolwork to do!

BUT being done with school, I had heard great things from other Student Volunteers at Siggy and decided to check their booth out when the Exhibition opened up. I ended up talking to Victoria from Admissions for a really long time. It was great, she was so helpful. By the end of that conversation I was definitely convinced it would be a good fit for me and that I would definitely be doing it probably winter 2008.

Then I got home and thought about it, I had a week to do the application. I was like WHY NOT DO FALL?! So I got my act together filled out the application, took the test, and got in. I filled out paperwork after that and was all set!

So now I'm into week 3 and I've had a blast so far. I cannot believe it, I FINALLY have teachers that think like me! NO MORE CRAZY EXPERIMENTAL ANIMATION!!! These people agree with me that the Nine Old Men were GENIUSES. One of the required books is Frank & Ollie's the Illusion of Life. They say it's the BIBLE, WOOOO! What a relief! To me Disney is the epitome of great animation, not to knock the others, but that is my personal favorite.

My Mentor for Class 1, Basic Foundations, is Marek Kochout. He's awesome! From Australia, started out at Disney Animation Australia, did stuff on Return of Jafar, and he went to Dreamworks. He has worked on Over the Hedge and just finished workin on Bee Movie.

So this blog I'll be posting things I have done and let you all know how it's going. First time I've really wanted to do my HW besides my one Senior Project that was with old movie clips. Feel free to comment, critique, etc!
